It’s that time of year…
As the days get shorter, many people prepare for winter and the end of the year. This is a good time to consider making an end-of-year donation to HPNF. Donations provide for quality palliative nursing specifically through research and educational grants, and scholarships to nurses who practice in the specialty of hospice and palliative care. Not only is there a benefit to nurses, but donors may also be eligible for tax benefits.
Generous voluntary donations from individuals make it possible for hospice and palliative nurses to deliver best practices to grateful patients (and their families) at the bedside. Through sustained giving, hospice and palliative nurses provide quality care not only at the end of this year but through the next and the next and the next!

IRA Rollover extended
The IRA Rollover provision has been given a two-year extension by President Bush. It was included in the $700 billion economic bailout bill (H.R. 1424, The Financial Rescue Package)
The provision will be made retroactive to Jan. 1, 2008, and will apply to gifts made from that date through Dec. 31, 2009.
The provision exempts from taxable income any funds transferred (“rolled over”) from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a charitable organization. The following limitations apply:
- The donor must be age 70½ or older.
- The cap on annual IRA rollovers is $100,000.
- The contribution must be a direct gift to a charity (no planned gifts).
