The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation (HPNF) was incorporated in 1998 to raise funds to support research and education for nurses and healthcare team members working in end-of-life care and to strive to meet the strategic goals of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA). We are committed to the belief that quality care for people with serious and advanced illness lies in evidence-based practice.
HPNF is a source for funding to individuals and groups who want to increase their knowledge in hospice and palliative care through research and education.

Nurses spend more time with patients who are facing the end of their lives than any other member of the healthcare team. When faced with a serious illness, people turn to their nurse or nurse practitioner for education, information, and guidance. Nurses are intimately involved in all aspects of end-of-life care. Through their care and interventions, nurses address the complex needs that face individuals and their families. Nurses work in hospitals, homes, long term care facilities, clinics, schools, prisons and hospices. They are the primary team members who coordinate, assess, direct and evaluate patient care needs that arise during the illness experience. With their knowledge about the physical, psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of life-limiting and terminal illness, nurses are critical team members in assuring the comfort, autonomy, and healing of patients and families.
Nurses are key providers of quality care for people facing life-limiting and terminal illness.
The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization which, through grants, scholarships and other awards, provides funding for research and education related to pain and symptom management at the end of life.
Charitable giving helps HPNF to ensure that compassionate and skilled pain management and end-of-life care is available to individuals and their loved ones. Every gift, regardless of its size, is a valuable resource which ultimately benefits the specialty of hospice and palliative nursing and patients and families facing life-limiting progressive illnesses.
The exclusive purpose of HPNF is to advance nursing excellence in hospice and palliative care.
HPNF is part of the Alliance for Excellence in Hospice and Palliative Nursing which includes
Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA)
