HPNF and Project on Death in America

Nursing Leadership Award in Palliative Care

The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation in accordance with a grant from the Project on Death in America will select from nominated candidates a nurse who has emerged as a leader in palliative care and whose work is improving care for dying patients and their families.

The focus of the Award is to transform our society’s medical culture and give priority to education, training, and clinical service in end-of-life care issues.  By publicizing what nursing leaders are doing and how it is working to improve end-of-life care, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation hopes to further the mission of Project on Death in America to understand and transform the culture and experience of dying and bereavement.

Each year, one winner will be selected to be recognized at the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association awards presentation in conjunction with the HPNA Membership Meeting during the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine/HPNA Annual Assembly.

Recognition also includes a $500 cash prize, travel-related expenses for attending the Annual Assembly, and the recipient is invited to write an article for publication in a future issue of the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing.
