The Education Scholarship for Individuals was established by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation in 2004 to provide financial assistance for nurses earning academic degrees. These scholarships support nurses who are advancing their career through academic achievement.
Scholarships of $500 are awarded to HPNA members and may be used for but are not limited to: tuition, books, computer software, and supplies that are related to nursing education.
Four scholarships are offered each year. They are directed toward nurses at all levels of nursing education from entry level through graduate degrees.
Winners will be selected from applicant pool by the volunteer Education Scholarship Review Committee. All applicants will be contacted by August 1. Scholarship checks are sent directly to awardees.
To Qualify for Review, Applicant must:
- Be a member of HPNA providing end-of-life care
- Be enrolled in a school of nursing or doctoral program, be formally matriculated, in good standing, and have successfully completed at least one semester of coursework
- Submit a letter from the academic program or school that verifies enrollment and good academic standing (or use this optional Enrollment Verification Form)
- Submit ONE letter of reference which should include assessment of individual scholastic ability and commitment to end-of-life care
- Submit an essay not to exceed one page expressing plans to use this education to advance end-of-life care
